deepcut daddies mission is to spread the music of our favorite bands from the 70’s and 80’s to the public at large.
Back in the deep, dark mists of time (the 70’s & 80’s) there were tons of great bands that rarely, if ever, had Top 40 hits but these bands wrote and played some of the best music of all time. Bands like the Allman Brothers, Little Feat, Steely Dan, Pink Floyd, Sly & the Family Stone, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Marley & the Wailers. And yes you’ll recognize almost all of their songs immediately because they were being played on FM stations all over the country back when FM was where you went for great music.
And we wanted to play songs by some of our favorite country artists, specifically Willie Nelson, George Strait and Dwight Yoakam as well.
So we ‘ve put together a band capable of doing justice to that music.
Just to be clear… We’re not a tribute band. We don’t dress up in costumers. We don’t play note-for-note covers of their music. We simply play the hell out of these tunes for the sheer joy of playing them.
And just to ease your mind, we also play a lot of tunes by more famous mainstream artists from the same period. Folks like the Beatles, Elton John, Al Green, Marvin Gaye, James Brown, Joe Cocker, Van Morrison, War, Z.Z. Top, Santana, Billy Joel, Otis Redding, Stevie Wonder, etc…
and yes, we even play some Stevie Ray Vaughan. We do live in Texas after all.
As well as all of the above we also specialize in the cool old school instrumentals ala the stylings of Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Jeff Beck, Donny Hathaway, et.al.
And finally we also feature some of our favorite one hit wonders. Songs like “Do You Know What I Mean” by Lee Michaels, “Expressway to Your Heart” by the Soul Survivors, “Gimme Little Sign” by Brenton Wood, “Come and Get Your Love” by Redbone, “It’s a Shame” by the Spinners, “Keep On Smilin'”
by Wet Willie, “Too Late to Turn Back Now”w by Cornelius Brothers & Sister Rose.
